Tank 500 debuts at the Chengdu show

Shortly after teasing us with photos of the upcoming Tank 600 SUV, Great Wall has unveiled it at the Chengdu Auto Show – albeit under a slightly different name, Tank 500.
This would be the second production car from Tank, a sub-brand founded in early 2021 exclusively for rugged body-on-frame SUVs. The model number 500 comes based on a new unitized architecture that later Tank models and the full-size truck, Great Wall X Cannon, will also take advantage of.
Wheels come sized 18 inches across by default, and the suspension is coil-spring based. The ground clearance amounts to 224 mm (8.75 inches), the maximum wading depth to 800 mm (31.25 inches), and the approach/departure angles to 29.6 and 24 degrees, respectively.
An electromagnetic coupling on the front axle can be engaged for part-time 4WD, there is a 2.64x reduction gear, and a differential lock on the rear axle (you can add another one to the front axle for a premium). The electronics provide as many as 11 off-road presets.
Paid extras also include a two-tone paintjob, powered kick plates, natural leather, imitation wood inserts, and others.
A new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 assisted by an electric starter sends 354 PS (349 hp / 260 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.
