Euro NCAP crash tests suggest some Chinese SUVs are safer than competition

Euro NCAP has published an extensive safety report that included crash test results for the Lynk&Co 01 and Nio ES8. Both crossovers were awarded five starts, which is not a common occurrence for China-made cars.

The Lynk&Co 01 scored 95% in adult passenger protection, 87% in children’s safety, 71% in pedestrian safety, and 81% in driver assists. The Nio ES8 scored 82, 84, 72 and 92 percent in the respective categories. Neither attracted any major critiques from the experts.

Other cars tested in the same batch included Audi Q4 e-tron, Subaru Outback, and Toyota Mirai. All three received the same five stars, but none surpassed the Lynk&Co 01 in adult safety. The Subaru Outback just barely outperformed the Nio ES8 in active safety systems, while the others fell behind.

In other recent news, the Renault Duster failed the Latin NCAP crash test dramatically with zero stars. During the collision, the car immediately leaked its fluids including fuel, and a door swung open for no excusable reason.
