Students create a solar-powered motorhome, go on a journey

Netherlands-based startup firm Solar Team Eindhoven has unveiled Stella Vita, an all-electric and completely power-autonomous home on wheels.

The vehicle has 17.5 square meters (over 188 square feet) of solar power elements on the roof, which is enough to power its motors. On a sunny day, it can cover up to 730 kilometers (453.6 miles) without any need for an external power source.

When stationary, the roof can be raised and unfolded to provide power for the various appliances on board. There is a kitchen with an electric stove and an espresso maker, a bed for two, a modest-sized shower cabin with a WC, and a living room. The latter houses a TV set, a workplace, and a socket for a laptop.

Despite being a one-off prototype, the Stella Vita will embark on quite a real trip around Europe on September 19, with a view of covering over 3,000 kilometers (1,864+ miles) and seeing how well it performs.
