Chevrolet sorts out Bolt spontaneous combustion issue

Chevrolet has made an official announcement explaining why some Bolt EVs caught fire randomly. Apparently, a combination of two rarely encountered defects in LG batteries is to blame.

GM and LG have already made arrangements to optimize production and quality control to eliminate these defects. LG intends to boost production due to the sheer number of vehicles involved in the recall campaign. The recalls will start in October.

All owners of potentially dangerous vehicles will get notifications from the manufacturer. Battery replacement will be free and covered by an 8-year warranty. Along with this, Chevrolet will be developing new software to ensure that the car detects any defects within its power storage unit immediately and reliably. The software should emerge in November.
