Check out a 30-year-old Porsche worth $1M

A 1991 Porsche Koenig Specials C62 has just gone up on sale for U.S. $995,000, a perfectly justified price given its rarity (three units and five mock-ups produced in total).

The car comes based on the racing-only Porsche 962 model that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1986 and 1987. The company had to modify its Groupe C prototypes extensively in order to make them street-legal, including replacing the entire bodywork, suspension, and exhaust system, which needed muffling to make it legal in Germany.

This example was number two out of the three cars produced, and had been kept in a private collection in Japan before being imported in the USA two years ago. With 2,500 km (1,550 miles) on the odo, it is in a fairly good technical condition with multiple body defects, but a fully operational powertrain.

A 3.4-liter flat-six engine with dual turbos resides behind the seats and produces 550 PS (542 hp / 404 kW), according to a dyno test dating back to 2019. The unofficial top speed amounts to 370 km/h, or 230 miles per hour. A five-speed manual transmission drives the wheels.

The MY1991 car cost even more when new: $1,030,000. Adjusted for inflation, it is only half as expensive now.
