Lexus unveils a hydrogen-powered buggy

The Lexus LX that debuted earlier this week wasn’t the only vehicle the Japanese premium automaker showed at the special event. There was an ATV concept powered by hydrogen.

The prototype vehicle uses an internal combustion engine that burns hydrogen and emits clear water. The body is buggy-shaped and finished in bronze. The company emphasizes that it is quite a capable off-roader and can be driven through dirt, mud and water without getting stuck.

Honestly speaking, we very much doubt that Lexus plans to invade the ATV market anytime soon. But the concept is still interesting to look at, especially from the standpoint of the technology used.

Earlier this year, Toyota unveiled a 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbo engine for the Corolla, essentially a modified version of the GR Yaris engine. It looks like we may be getting more interesting powertrain developments soon.
