This 55-year old Ford Mustang is cool, but is it $420,000 cool?

A couple weeks ago, a spectacularly restored and modified 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible cropped up on sale on eBay, but the deal must have fallen through due to the exorbitant asking price.

U.S.-based tuner CMX Customs by Vinnie carried out the restoration. The most immediately noticeable exterior change comes in the form of an exclusive reddish-brown paintjob called Root Beer Kandy by House Of Kolor. In addition to looking gorgeous under any light, it actually shines and sparkles under direct sunlight. Classical chrome wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zeros complement the luxury image.

A five-liter Coyote V8 found under the hood hits a Tremec six-speed manual transmission and the rear wheels with 466 PS (460 hp / 342 kW). The suspension is height-adjustable, and slotted/perforated Baer rotors can be seen behind the spokes.

No less gorgeous is the cabin, which is now almost completely wrapped in fine light brown leather. The steering wheel is squared off from below, and natural wood can be found on the dashboard and the gear stick knob. Modern features on board include a multimedia system and adaptive ambient lighting.

We find it difficult to imagine anyone who would call this restomod bad, but its seller was apparently enamored with it enough to ask $420,000 for it. eBay won’t disclose any details, but it looks like the deal fell through – and we wouldn’t be surprised, because as fine as it is, you can buy a whole herd of used ‘Stangs for that kind of money.
