Jim O’Shea bought his Volvo new exactly three decades ago and has since driven it for more than one million miles (1.6 million kilometers). The car looks like it could do more!
In an interview, O’Shea confided that he was inspired by an example of another Volvo owner. Back in 1991, he met the owner at a dealership and found out that he drove his 1961 Volvo to it, which had around a million miles on the odo. Apparently, Jim was impressed enough to give the world a promise to stay true to his Volvo for at least the same mileage. He has now fulfilled that promise.
The sedan may have been weather-beaten with sun-bleached paint and rust specs here and there, but it has a clean record to show for all those years. O’Shea claims it was merely grazed at parking lots three times in total.
The car had its engine replaced after 585,000 miles (942,000 kilometers), and its transmission shortly afterwards. According to the happy driver, he was able to carry out the repairs himself, which contributed greatly to the longevity of the car.
