Confirmed: There will be no BMW XM Competition

A representative of BMW M has confirmed in an interview to Motor1.com that the XM crossover would get a high-end spec after its initial release, but there will be no flagship named ‘Competition’.

Martin Schleypen said the name of the production car would have to remain secret for a while longer. He added that the top spec of the XM would feel similar to Competition models currently on the market. He did not specify how much power it would produce, though.

The original BMW XM Concept debuted last November with a 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 under the hood assisted by an electric motor for a combined output of 750 PS (740 hp / 552 kW) and 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft). The first spec to reach the market will pack only 644 PS (635 hp / 474 kW), though, and everything looks like there will be no flagship as powerful as the concept was.
