Mercedes Vision AMG trades mirrors for cameras

Mercedes-AMG has shared more images of its upcoming design study dubbed the Vision AMG. While they do not provide a clear depiction of the whole car, some details, such as miniature rearview cameras and dotted body patterns, can still be seen.

Using compact cameras mounted on aerodynamic pylons probably enables the engineers to reduce the drag compared to using traditional mirrors. Sleek and aerodynamic body outlines serve the same purpose. We are not sure about the dot patterns, or whether they are patterns and not, for example, grilles of some kind.

The first image of the study cropped up a week ago and gave us the idea that the Vision AMG is a new, more powerful modification of the EQXX Concept (see video). The latter was designed to maximize all-electric range thanks to its flawless aerodynamics and modest 204-PS (201-hp / 150-kW) electric motor. We expect the Vision AMG to pack considerably more thrust than that.
