Ford E-Transit Custom debuts in EV, PHEV and diesel flavors

Ford has come to the ongoing IAA Transportation Motorshow in Hannover, Germany with a handful of electric commercial vans united under the Transit Custom banner. The company also revealed info about the powertrains the lineup will offer, including electric, plug-in hybrid and diesel-based.

The E-Transit Custom comes with two powertrains to choose from. The standard one makes only 135 PS (133 hp / 100 kW), but you can opt for a higher spec and get 217 PS (214 hp / 160 kW). The torque maxes out at 415 Nm (306 lb-ft) in both versions.

The battery holds up to 74 kilowatt-hours of power, translating into 380 km (236 miles) of WLTP-rated range at most. The charging system supports plugging electric appliances and other external equipment into the van.

In its plug-in hybrid form, the Transit Custom combines a 2.5-liter petrol engine with a battery pack having 11.8 kWh of actual (useful) capacity. Like its all-electric cousin, it can be used to power external equipment, and if you decide to go in full-electric mode, it will take you as far as 57 kilometers (35 miles).

As for the diesel version, buyers will have four specifications to choose among, rated at 109, 134, 148 and 168 metric horsepower (108, 132, 146 and 166 hp; 80, 100, 110 and 125 kW, respectively). The transmission can be either six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic, and AWD is a paid option.
