Car Tuning

Check out a wilderness-loving Porsche 911

A 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera is being auctioned away in the United States right now with the bidding at $170,000 at the time of writing. The car received a major overhaul after long decades of use and is said to be in great condition.

The seller says they bought it in 2019 with 435,000 kilometers (270,000 miles) on the odometer and sent it to Florida-based restoration shop Straat straight away. The company then spent 20 months turning it from a regular sports car into a rally monster. The post-restoration mileage is rather negligible at 2,250 km (1,400 miles).

During the restoration, the car was stripped down to the naked frame, resprayed from red into greying blue and retrofitted with a massive spoiler, heavy-duty bumpers and underbody protection.

Heated and vented Recaro leather seats were put inside along with an updated air conditioner and a safety cage. Blaupunkt and JL Audio components were used to design a custom high-quality audio system for it.

The suspension was made adjustable with Elephant and Von Shocks parts. 15-inch Braid wheels were shod in BFGoodrich tires.

The 3.2-liter flat-six engine was rebuilt with a Mahle piston assembly, a different starter, a new ECU and a modified oil system. The five-speed manual transmission was also reinforced and modernized accordingly.

Rounding off the project are a winch, a jack, and an expedition rack on the roof holding an extra LED bar and a spare wheel.
