Porsche rolls out the Vision 357, a concept car for its 75th birthday

Porsche is celebrating 75 years in business this year, reminiscing about the first 356 model that emerged in June 1948 with a highly customized take on the 718 Cayman GT4 RS.

The retrospective concept car is called Vision 357 and utilizes a four-liter naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine. According to Style Porsche VP, it is the company’s attempt ‘to fuse the past, the present and the future’ by ‘staying true to the original proportions while having distinct future-oriented features.’

If you struggle to spot the door handles, it is because the design team moved them to under the quarter-panel glass. Cameras replace the traditional mirrors, and the head- and taillights are hidden under perforated body trim panels.

The earlier Porsche 356 models came with a split windshield divided with a vertical bar. While the Vision 357 lacks this feature, the company nonetheless played around with the windshield design to recreate something like a helmet visor. The wheels are 20 inches across and covered with carbon-fiber trim discs.

The one-off show car will be presented at a special expo in Berlin later this month.
