Watch a VW Tiguan R take on a Land Rover Defender in a 1/4-mile race

Ever wondered whether the Volkswagen Tiguan R could outrun the V8-powered Land Rover Defender 90 in a straight line? You might be tempted to proclaim the Defender victorious based on specs alone, but wait until you see the race.

The Tiguan R is no slouch with its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot churning out 320 PS (316 hp / 235 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) to all wheels through a seven-speed DSG box. Of course, the new Land Rover Defender 90 is still far ahead with its 5.0-liter V8, 525 PS (518 hp / 386 kW) and 625 Nm (461 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is eight-speed automatic for the Def, which can also be considered an advantage.
