Check out a Honda Accord with 1,000,000+ miles on its engine

This Honda Accord owned by Justin Kilmer in the USA has covered more than a million miles, or 1.6 million kilometers, throughout its life. The Drive quoted Kilmer saying many parts had been replaced since 2003, but the engine stayed stock.

The coupe came into Kilmer’s possession following his marriage – it used to belong to his wife. The family has been using it very actively since 2015, by which time it already had 185,000 miles (nearly 300,000 km) under its belt. Justin worked as a medical courier and often drove his personal car on his job, adding around 100,000 mi (160,000 km) to the car every year on average.

The Accord has now crossed the 1,000,000-mile mark, setting what its owner claims is a new world record for six-cylinder engine use statistics.

Kilmer has regularly preformed maintenance on his ride and made sure to always use the OEM spare parts. Aside from the usual expendables like oil, though, he also had to repair the transmission, go through multiple clutches, a hydraulic power steering pump, door locks, and the driver seat after his old one ceased to respond to adjustment attempts.

In all likelihood, the engine will itself be sent to the scrapyard soon, what with the recent rise in ignition failures  and a sharp compression ratio drop in one of the cylinders. Having said that, the owner is still in two minds whether to replace it or attempt a repair.
