Racecars worth millions of USD to go on sale at a 24 Hours of Le Mans auction

The famous 24 Hours of Le Mans race is turning 100 years old this June, which is why a very special auction will open its doors at the racing complex on Friday next week (June 9). A total of 21 race-proven vehicles estimated upwards of $40,000,000 will be offered.

The offer encompasses such famous marques as Delahaye, Ferrari, Jaguar, Lancia, Lister, Porsche, Rondeau and Venturi. Perhaps the most expensive of the bunch is the 1985 Porsche 962, one out of just three such chasses built for the Porsche Racing Team for the seasons of 1985 and 1986. It alone is expected to bring home between $6.4 and $9.6 million.

Ranking second is a 1955 Ferrari LM 121 Spider, believed to be one out of four or fewer surviving examples. Its preliminary estimate lies between $5.9 and $7 million.

A 1969 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Competizione prototype occupies the third place with a projected $5 million or more headed its way. Aside from it, the auction will attempt to find buyers for two accessories: a start flag dating back to the 1965 race and the racing overalls of Jacky Ickx that he wore in 1985, his last year on the racetrack.

If all the lots manage to attract the highest bids from the prediction list, the total revenue will be $50,000,000.
