Range Rover wipes the floor with Ferrari on Tianmen Mountain, China
Okay, so maybe the word ‘floor’ doesn’t exactly apply to a crazy mountain track consisting of 99 turns, 999 steps and 45-degree inclinations. The point still stands, though: the extremely tough Range Rover Sport SVR off-roader has proven more dynamic, agile, and controllable than the Ferrari 458 Italia on the famous Tianmen Mountain race track.
Piloted by professional Chinese-Dutch race driver Ho-Pin Tung, the vehicle has managed to complete the entire 11.3 km (7 mi) 99 Turns run in astounding 9 minutes 51 seconds – full 40 seconds better than the Italian car did.
A while ago, Ho-Pin Tung ascended the famous Stairway to Heaven on the Tianmen Mountain drivin a hybrid-powered Range Rover Sport. The car, apparently, didn’t have any trouble at all climbing the 999 steps, even in places where the slopes dropped to rather sharp 45 degrees.
The next-generation Range Rover Sport SVR comes with a mighty 5.0L V8 engine which produces 575 hp and 700 Nm of torque. It can accelerate 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.5 seconds and ultimately reach 283 km/h (176 mph).
