USA postpones enacting 100% tariffs on China-made EVs

As you may remember, the United States decided to introduce a 100-percent barrier fee for importing all electric vehicles from China in order to protect the domestic market. It should have already happened, but hasn’t.

The authorities had originally planned to enact the tariffs on August 1, but later pushed the decision back to August 31 – only to delay it once again without a clear reason.

While we don’t have all the details just yet, it’s worth pointing out that a number of industry observers believe a recent meeting of U.S. and Chinese government officials put these plans on hold. The meeting was dedicated to the issues of international trade, and the matter of import fees was most likely brought up during the negotiations. Perhaps the countries are working on a compromise that would suit both parties.
