2018 KIA Sportage photos revealed
The South Korean car giant KIA Motors has revealed the first shots of its refreshed Sportage compact SUV. It looks like the car got to keep most of its original design, but is now available in mild hybrid modification as well.
The photos show a KIA Sportage equipped to the GT Line specification, but there will naturally be other options, too. The car sports revised headlight design especially welcome after the weird fog lamps found in the previous generation, new bumpers, radiator grille, and wheels.
The interior houses a new multi-function steering wheel, a redesigned instrument panel and an infotainment system with a frameless seven-inch screen. Trimming is now available in a few extra color schemes, and the car packs several safety features and driver aids.
At the core of the updated crossover lies an improved version of its former turbo diesel engine, now assisted by a mild hybrid system comprised of a 48V battery and a starter-generator. As one would expect, the engine is now cleaner (4% less CO2 emissions) and has higher fuel efficiency.
The 2018 KIA Sportage no longer comes with the 1.7L CRDi engine. Instead, the manufacturer now offers a 1.6L U3 СRDI unit rated at between 113 and 134 hp (84 – 100 kW), reported to be KIA’s cleanest diesel engine so far.
Sales in Europe begin late this summer.
