Hyundai Sonata PHEV now available via pre-orders in China
The South Korean automotive giant Hyundai has opened pre-orders for the new Sonata PHEV sedan, a plug-in hybrid vehicle with up to 75 km (47 mi) all-electric driving range.
The hybrid drivetrain of the vehicle consists of a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with 156 hp (116 kW), an electric motor contributing almost 70 hp (52 kW) of its own, and a 12.9 kWh battery. The car can cover almost 75 kilometers (47 miles) without engaging its gasoline engine even once.
The main distinguishing features of the new Hyundai Sonata PHEV are a round battery charger outlet on a front wheel arch, a badge that reads “Plug-in”, a new exhaust pipe, and differently styled wheels.
The hybrid series will be assembled in the facilities of the Beijing-Hyundai joint enterprise in China.
The Hyundai Sonata PHEV was released in the USA this winter, but the U.S. version came equipped with a smaller 9.8 kWh traction battery.
