Volkswagen Golf goes crazy with the new engine

German tuner KR-Turbotechnik has unveiled a modded second-gen Volkswagen Golf, complete with a light exterior overhaul and a major engine boost. The latter makes it a true competition killer at drag races.

On the outside, the car gained smoked rear lights, larger wheels and some other purely aesthetic touches.

The engine bay is where the greatest surprise awaits. KR-Turbotechnik has managed to boost the stock 2.3L VR5 engine of the car to some unbelievable 850 hp (634 kW). Compare this to the factory-guaranteed 150 hp (112 kW), and you’ll realize what’s going on there.

Aside from the above, the vehicle has been retrofitted with an all-wheel drive. As a result, it became capable of finishing a quarter-mile in 10 seconds flat. Its top going speed makes an impressive 290 km/h (180 mph).

In theory, the same kind of upgrade can be applied to the VW Passat and Golf models that ship with the exact same engine. Perhaps the KR-Turbotechnik team will have its hands tied with new orders soon.
