SpeedBuster fixes Hyundai Kona’s low performance issue

Looking at the success of the Toyota CH-R, Hyundai couldn’t resist following in that company’s footsteps and releasing a compact and stylish crossover vehicle. This is how we got the Hyundai Kona. And it’s a good car in its own right, but its 1.0-liter turbocharged engine lacks quite a bit in terms of performance.

This is what car tuner SpeedBuster tried to address with its latest release, a chip called CTRS which can be installed on the stock engine to increase its output from the stock 120 hp (90 kW) and 172 Nm (127 lb·ft) to 149 hp (112 kW) and 221 Nm (163 lb·ft).

Those looking for a more affordable option may buy a cheaper CT or CTR chip instead, but their performance yields aren’t being disclosed.

By the way, Kona is a region in Hawaii where the extreme triathlon event called “Ironman” takes place. By naming its crossover after this place, Hyundai must have hinted at its sporty and adventurous nature. Well, as you would no doubt agree, the name makes WAY more sense with the SpeedBuster engine upgrade installed.
