Plymouth ‘Cuda sells for $2.2M

Mecum Indy has sold a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda for a cool $2,200,000. Aside from being a collector’s rarity, the coupe only had 1,556 km (967 miles) on the odo due to standing motionless since 1976.

The auction car was one of four vehicles built back in 1970 for the Rapid Transit System Caravan show. The Barracuda quartet was customized by Harry Bradley, who also had a part in designing the first Hot Wheels toy cars. This is how this particular example ended up with a unique livery.

The former owner was too shy to drive his ‘Cuda in public, concerned about it attracting too much attention. In the end, the car wound up staying in a garage for 47 years straight.

Power for the exotic ride comes from a 2.7-liter V8 rated at 385 PS (380 hp / 283 kW) when new.
