Polestar 2 U.S. software update adds power and torque for $1.2k

All owners of the Polestar 2 dual-motor liftback in the United States can now opt for a software upgrade that comes in at $1,195 and improves the performance of the electric system.

The power goes up by 68 points to 476 hp, while the torque rises 15 pound-feet to 487 lb-ft. Once applied, it reduces the 0-60 mph sprint time to 4.2 seconds.

It is the first time Polestar offers an upgrade option like this, the press release points out. Unlike with an ICE car, visiting a dealership is not required: everything is installed over the air. Customers in Europe have had a similar option for a year now, priced at €1,000.

The Swedish EV brand is a part of Volvo Group and produces its cars in China for the world market. Recently, Polestar has been thinking of organizing production in Europe as well, but these plans will have to wait for at least five years.
