Renault has arrived at this year’s IAA Munich expo with a new version of its Kangoo van. Dubbed Grand Kangoo, it boasts a long wheelbase and body, comfortably seating up to seven passengers or carrying more cargo in the commercial version. Pre-orders will open in late 2023, but the deliveries will not begin until next year.
The vehicle has 500 liters (17.66 cubic feet) of luggage space by default. Removing the rear two seat rows gives you 3,750 liters (132.43 cubic feet), and you can stow smaller things across the 58 liters (2 cu. ft.) worth of pockets and niches throughout the cabin.
The folding back of the front passenger seat enables transporting cargo up to 3.11 meters (10.2 feet) long. All five seats of the two rear rows can be pushed forward and backwards independently from each other. There are large sliding doors at both sides, each 81 cm (31.6 inches) wide. For comparison, the old Kangoo only had doors 630 mm (24.6 inches) wide.
This is not all. Buyers can customize their van’s tailgate design in accordance with their needs and preferences. On the whole, the new Kangoo comes in 1,024 possible configurations.
Powering the standard van is a 1.3-liter petrol turbo engine delivering 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW) to the wheels. The transmission can be either six-speed manual or seven-speed DCT. The only ICE alternative is a 1.5-liter diesel with 96 PS (95 hp / 71 kW) and strictly manual transmission.
However, there is also an EV. Called the Grand Kangoo E-Tech, it produces 76 PS (75 hp / 56 kW) in power conservation mode and 122 PS (120 hp / 90 kW) in normal mode. The torque is instant and amounts to 245 Nm (181 lb-ft). A 45-kWh traction battery gives it up to 265 km (164 miles) of range per charge.
