Nissan Interstar LCV bows in Japan as a clone of the latest Renault Master

For a quarter of a century now, the Renault Master has been sold alongside its JDM clone named Nissan Interstar. The French light commercial van received its update two and a half months ago, and the Interstar has followed suit this week.

On the outside, the only difference between the two is the radiator grille. The Japanese van sports a massive grille with large horizontal bars and big ‘INTERSTAR’ lettering at the top. The rest of the body panels, as well as the bumpers and the lights, are identical.

Inside, the novelty pretty much boils down to a different steering wheel hub sporting a new badge, as well as new infotainment UI backdrops. As usual, you can opt for heated mirrors and windshield, wireless phone charging, and a multimedia system with a 10-inch display and preinstalled Google services. The interior also has lots of pockets for miscellaneous items and papers.

Nissan has not yet revealed any powertrain details, saying only that there will be the usual 2.0-liter diesel and a full EV. The new Renault Master ships with internal combustion engines rated from 105 to 170 PS (103–168 hp; 77–125 kW) available with either a manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission. The EV comes with a single electric motor obtainable in two versions: 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW) and 143 PS (141 hp / 105 kW). The former is considered Standard Range and covers only 180 km (112 miles) on a single charge. The latter is known as Long Range and yields around 410 km (255 miles).
