Reports: Chevrolet to bring back the Camaro sedan in 2027

The sixth generation of the Chevrolet Camaro bowed out in late 2023 without a successor in sight. Rumors had circulated that the next model would be all-electric, but Automotive News claims those plans have been laid to rest.

The publication quotes an insider allegedly working for one General Motors suppliers saying that the company plans to launch as many as three new vehicles based on an updated Alpha 2 platform in late 2027. These include a sedan-shaped, gas-powered Chevrolet Camaro, the next generation of the Cadillac CT5 and a still-unannounced sedan from Buick. All production will be reportedly localized in Michigan, USA.

It may be too early to talk technical details, but we can totally see the Camaro getting the same LS6 V8 engine as the recently introduced Corvette Grand Sport. The naturally aspirated 6.7-liter mill produces 550 PS (542 hp / 405 kW) and should allow the seventh generation of the muscle car to compete successfully against the Ford Mustang and the Dodge Charger. This theory is corroborated by Chevrolet itself saying it wanted to put the LS6 into “many” upcoming cars and utility vehicles.

As for the Cadillac CT5, the current generation is already based on the Alpha 2 platform, so refreshing it should be easier than a complete redesign. The Buick remains a bit of a dark horse, though. With the Buick Regal leaving production some six years ago, the brand’s current lineup in North America consists exclusively of SUVs and crossovers. Then again, perhaps GM sees a niche to fill in the sedan market.

The automaker has yet to comment on this alleged leak.
