Roewe i5 gets updated in China

SAIC-owned carmaker Roewe has unveiled the facelift version of its affordable petrol sedan, the i5. The model will go on sale in July with a new body, a revised cabin and an extended list of equipment.

Compared to the old version featured in the video here, the new i5 has the same body shape – and that’s about all. The front and the rear are completely new with different bumpers, lights, radiator grille, side sills, hood and more.

A single large display incorporates a digital dashboard and a multimedia screen under a rather unusual-looking sun visor. The transmission tunnel looks more reserved and laconic than before the facelift.

For the first few months, the new Roewe i5 will be available with only one engine, a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated unit rated at 129 PS (127 hp / 95 kW) and 158 Nm (117 lb-ft) of torque. The older version had 9 horsepower and 8 Newton-meters of torque less.
