Skyworth EV6 (Skywell ET5) scores 1/5 stars for safety

The China-made electric SUV alternately known as the Skyworth EV6 and Skywell ET5 has failed its C-NCAP particularly hard with a final safety rating of 39.9%, which corresponds to one star out of five.

The car performed more or less solidly in the pedestrian safety test. The experts found that it had very little in terms of rigid front end zones prone to inflicting injuries during impact. In the end, though, even this indicator was evaluated at a meager 61.5%.

In the series of crash tests that followed, head-on collision was the only test with acceptable scores. In a 100% overlap test, the SUV scored 13.3 points out of the maximum 24. In a 50% overlap run, it scored 16.1 out of 24. Whiplash injury protection was evaluated at 3.7 points out of 7, and child safety was awarded 2 points out of 3.

The lateral collision test is where the car more or less fell apart, scoring zero out of 16. You can see the extent of the damage in the opening photo. Active safety assists weren’t very helpful, either: they often failed to recognize obstacles in the way, earning the EV a low rating of 30.3%.

The Skyworth EV6 is a 4.7-meter-long, front-wheel-drive crossover utility vehicle running on a 72-kWh battery and a single electric motor producing 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW). The NEDC-rated driving range amounts to 520 km (323 miles). Among other things, buyers can opt for laser LED headlights not unlike those utilized by BMWs and Audis.
