Japanese magazine Mag-X claims that the sixth generation of the Subaru Forester, which is penciled in for a premiere in 2023, will be related to Toyota hybrids.
The two companies have been indulging in badge engineering for quite a while, some of the examples being the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86, as well as the Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ4x, among many others. However, the anonymous report claims that the new Forester will not be a full copy of the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid; the concept will be different.
Allegedly, Subaru will use its Global Platform for production, just like it did with all of its other cars on the current lineup. It will hit the market powered by a petrol engine and two electric motors. Like its predecessors, it will feature plenty of ground clearance and permanent AWD. The design will evolve, lending the Forester a more modern exterior while keeping it recognizable. This is all that is being reported at this time.
The current generation of the Subaru Forester has been in production for three years. It received a facelift this summer and an off-road-going Wilderness Edition in the USA in September.
