Stick-shift Subaru WRX bows in Tokyo, too bad it’s only a concept

As promised, Subaru has brought a manual WRX STI version dubbed the Sport# to the Tokyo Auto Salon, but production plans remain unclear.

Compared to the standard WRX model, the STI Sport# features an eye-catching aero kit complete with red accents, lots of added air intakes and a bulky rear diffuser. The rear wing is not included this time around, replaced with a modest-sized trunk lid spoiler.

Power comes from Subaru’s familiar 2.4-liter boxer engine linked to all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. The output is unknown, but the standard WRX with a CVT gets 275 PS (271 hp / 205 kW) from the same four-cylinder block.

Subaru proudly calls the show car “a new milestone” for the company, implying that production is indeed in the plans, but refusing to reveal any specific dates.
