Next-gen Suzuki Swift hits JMS spotlight

Suzuki couldn’t miss the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo this year because it had a Swift Concept to introduce. Despite its pre-production status, the vehicle is already well detailed and gives us a good idea of what to expect from the production car set for release in 2024.

The length, width and height are specified as 3,860, 1,695 and 1,500 millimeters, respectively. The wheelbase is rather short at 2,450 mm (95.7 inches). That’s it for the known numbers. By the way, they are almost identical to the dimensions of the current Swift model, meaning that the chassis is likely the same. Knowing Suzuki, we’d expect it to release the hatchback in Japan with a three-cylinder engine assisted by a 48V starter generator. CVT is the likeliest transmission option.

On the outside, the new Swift looks fresh but stays recognizable. The proportions are familiar, but the front fascia, the bumpers and the shoulder line have been completely redesigned and the headlights have been reworked, too. Things look different inside as well, with more influence from the marque’s other models.

Despite the fundamental changes, the new Swift remains a wallet-friendly car. It is abundantly evident in its non-digital instrument cluster, small infotainment display and old-fashioned transmission selector.

The final production car is expected to debut before the end of the current year. A beefed-up Sport edition may be released around 2025.
