Tesla Model 3 quietly brings back turn stalks for China

After several years of complaints and requests from disgruntled Tesla Model 3 drivers in China, the Highland update has finally made physical turn indicator stalks available again. The company never announced it properly, but you can now tick off that option in the configurator app.

Existing Model 3 owners in China who would like to trade the inconvenient turn signal buttons on their steering wheel for larger, easier-to-use stalks will need to visit a dealership and pay 2,499 CNY for the retrofit. The company will simultaneously replace the steering wheel with a more recent design lacking any turn indicator buttons. According to Tesla, the price ($350) is only this low because the company can recycle the parts being dismantled.

Only China-spec Model 3 Highland EVs assembled from February 7, 2025 are eligible for the retrofit. Having said that, Carscoops believes that similar options should soon become available in other countries as well. What remains unknown is whether the Model S and the Model Y will ever get the stalks.
