Reports: Toyota FJ Cruiser may sprout a compact hybrid version

According to Best Car Japan, the trademark ‘Land Hopper’ that Toyota patented a little while ago may belong to a compact-sized successor to the FJ Cruiser lineup. The body-on-frame SUV may end up with a shortened version of the GA-F platform and be comparable in size to the Corolla Cross.

Best Car also assumes that the new model will run on gasoline by default, with some hybrid alternatives also in the mix. The powertrain may also be borrowed from the Corolla Cross, and an all-electric version is possible, too.

In terms of appearance, the Toyota Compact Cruiser EV pictured below may be the biggest clue as to what the Land Hopper may look like. The concept car premiered in 2021 during the presentation of Toyota’s EV strategy.
