The SEMA kicks off in Las Vegas later today, and Toyota will be exhibiting four concept cars at its booth this time around – all of them seemingly based on off-road chasses. The announcement teaser shows a Tacoma truck sliding in a controlled drift on a city street.
The project is called Tacoma X-Runner. The rendering reveals a rather extensive body kit, low suspension and a black hood with an air scoop. The latter might be pointing to an upgraded engine, as this hood type is normally reserved for the Tacoma i-Force Max hybrid packing 331 PS (326 hp / 243 kW) and 630 Nm (465 lb-ft) of torque.
The other three concepts are called FJ Bruiser, Retro Cruiser, and Tacoma Blue Beetle. The latter likely references the recent superhero movie by the same name, in the filming of which Toyota has taken part.
Little is known about the Retro Cruiser. As for the FJ Bruiser, Toyota is currently releasing a whole mini-series on YouTube dedicated to that project. The company took an old and poorly preserved Land Cruiser FJ45 and is rebuilding it from scratch into a serious all-terrain buggy powered by a racing engine with a cargo bed for good measure.
