More Like Weevil: Check out a stretched VW Super Beetle

A bizarre 1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle turned by its original owner into a Beetlimo of sorts cropped up on sale in the United States earlier this week, but didn’t meet reserve.

The tuner behind the build invested a great amount of time and effort into lengthening the platform of the car and especially its nose. The resulting shape reminds us of the earliest Bentleys, although it arguably lacks their refinement. Aside from extending the wheelbase, the owner had to chop the cabin down to a single seat row. What’s funny is that he ended up driving from the rear bench, because the separate front seats no longer fitted.

Many of you must be wondering right now where the engine resides in this insane creation. Brace up for a disappointment, then. The long-nosed Beetle still retains its stock rear-mounted flat-four and RWD drivetrain sending 50 PS (49 hp / 37 kW) to the wheels. The huge front end serves as a spacious luggage area, and that’s about it.

The 52-year-old car went on sale with nearly 100,000 km (60,000 miles) under its belt. The seller claimed that it had stayed in one family for four decades and was still in good, fully drivable condition. If the photos are any indication, it was indeed well-preserved for its age. Even so, the bidding had barely made it past $1,300 before the seller backed out.
