VW hits 1.5 million assembled cars in India

The Indian branch of Volkswagen has assembled its 1,500,000th vehicle in the country this week. Around 30% of the cars made by the corporation in India are exported.

The factory in Chakan, India was commissioned in 2007. It started production with the Skoda Fabia. Right now, the industrial complex is producing a range of fairly modern cars like the VW Virtus and the Skoda Slavia, as well as SUVs like the VW Tiguan and the Skoda Kushaq. The four models mentioned above have already surpassed 300,000 units.

Aside from a car production line, Volkswagen runs an engine assembly facility in India that’s been making both petrol engines and turbo diesels over the past nine years. It has already churned out more than 380,000 engines.
