Stretched VW Tiguan patented in China

Volkswagen is getting ready to produce a new Tiguan SUV in China. According to AutoHome referencing local patent files and images, it will be larger than its European counterpart.

The crossover, formerly known on the Chinese market as the Tiguan L, is now called Tiguan L Pro. Judging by the certification shots, it looks nearly identical to its European relative on the outside with two main designs to choose from: vanilla and R-Line.

The latter adds sporty aggression to the otherwise tame-looking SUV using a new front bumper with enlarged air intakes, new wheels and a large, silver-framed mesh insert at the rear end. The interior is not shown yet, but we expect it to look more or less the same as the European version.

At 4,735 mm long, 1,859 mm wide and 1,682 mm tall with 2,791 mm between the axles, the Tiguan L Pro is nearly 200 mm (8 inches) longer than its EU cousin and has 110 mm (4.3 inches) more wheelbase. It is also slightly wider and taller. Despite all this, rumors persist that the China version will be limited to two seat rows and five seats.

For the engine, customers will be choosing from two boost options of the same 2.0-liter turbo: one rated at 186 PS (183 hp / 137 kW) and the other one at 220 PS (217 hp / 162 kW).

VW-SAIC factory will handle the assembly for the national market. VW-FAW will introduce its own variant of the Tiguan L Pro later on, which will get a Tayron badge.
