2002–2025: VW Touareg bows out of production

The Volkswagen Touareg Final Edition is available in Europe starting from €75,025. It isn’t any different from stock (see video) aside from a few memorable laser engravings, and marks the end of a lifecycle that spanned three generations and 1,200,000 units sold.

Buyers of the Final Edition will get corresponding lettering on the rear door glass bezels, the scuff plates, the transmission selector and the dashboard. It will remain available in Europe through March 2026, after which the Touareg nameplate will retire for good, the company claims. In Germany, this will leave the Volkswagen Tayron as the next thing closest to flagship.

The automaker says that Europe and Germany in particular have been the most important markets for the Touareg througout its 23 years of production – and still are, despite the fact that it is currently offered in 39 countries. The media learned that the iconic large SUV would be discontinued in August this year, but only now that the Final Edition has been announced do we know that there will be no direct successor.
