Volvo to discontinue its V40 hatchback series

Over the past few years, the automotive industry has been strongly leaning towards prioritizing coupe/SUV models over sedans/saloons and hatchbacks. Swedish car marque Volvo proved no exception when it announced earlier today that it would permanently stop the production of its V40 hatchback model in 2019.

The car premiered in 2012 and is still being manufactured based on the same old chassis, even though the manufacturer has access to the much more modern platforms called CMA and SPA.

It is official that a replacement is underway, but the company remains tight-lipped about any details. Rumors claim the new car is a coupe/SUV model that will enter the market within two years from now.

The Volvo V40 has been pretty popular in Europe over the course of the past several years, with over 70,000 units sold in 2017 alone. Despite this, the sales have been slowly declining since 2015.
