Chevy considers slapping its badge on a best-selling Chinese EV

According to CNEVpost quoting insiders, General Motors plans to license the Wuling Bingo Pro EV and sell them rebadged as Chevrolets in a number of developing markets.

Brazil, Mexico and select regions of Asia and Africa are among the main destinations for the practical and affordable city EV, CNEVpost claims. It’s unclear right now whether Chevrolet plans to modify the car in any way prior to exporting.

The original Wuling Bingo Pro is 4,050 millimeters (159.4 inches) long with 2,560 mm (100.8 inches) between the axles and a single e-motor rated at 88 PS (87 hp / 65 kW). Buyers can choose from two battery sizes rated at 330 and 403 kilometers (205 and 250 miles, respectively). Prices in China start from the equivalent of U.S. $8,400, explaining why Wuling sold more than 21,000 examples of the car in June alone.

General Motors may use its SAIC-GM-Wuling joint enterprise in China for any licensing and rebadging purposes. If the company decides to customize the EV for specific destination markets, it will most likely do so at this factory.

We haven’t received any official commentary from either GM or Wuling yet.
