First Xiaomi EV to debut in late March

The Chinese IT giant’s first electric car, the five-meter-long sedan named the SU7, is set to debut in the country on March 28, 2024. According to Reuters, the company will hold a special event where it will also announce the pricing.

The SU7 is reportedly already in production at the BAIC Group factory in Beijing, China. The annual production plan is 200,000 units. Xiaomi has its ambitions set on getting into the world’s top five list of automakers. For the time being, the company plans to operate just 59 showrooms in 29 cities in China.

The SU7 was unveiled in late 2023. It has a low-drag sedan body (drag ratio 0.195) and a three-meter-long wheelbase. Xiaomi said its electric motors were purpose-designed to have extremely high power efficiency (over 98%). The car also ran the latest version of the phone maker’s operating system and had a self-driving system on board.

When the battery sedan reaches the market, it will do so in four different trims rated between 628 and 800 km (390–497 miles) of range on a charge. The flagship spec will output 673 PS (664 hp / 495 kW), sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.78 seconds and max out at 265 km/h (164 mph).
