Ginetta reveals its first road-going supercar ahead of premiere

It has only been a month since the media discovered that Ginetta was getting its first ever street-legal supercar ready to rumble. However, as it turns out, the car is almost ready and will celebrate its official debut next month. In the meantime, let us have a look at the specs revealed by the manufacturer so far.

The still unnamed vehicle is 4,640 mm (15.22 ft.) long, 1,950 mm (6.4 ft.) wide and has 2,670 mm (8.76 ft.) of inter-axle spacing. Despite the rather liberal dimensions, it manages to weigh in at just 1,150 kilograms (2,535 lb.). Its nearest competitors, represented by Lamborghini, Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche models, all weigh 150 to 350 kg (330 – 770 lb.) more.

The car body, as well as every single part of its aerodynamic kit, has gone through multiple wind tunnel tests, and the final pre-production copy of the vehicle has successfully run a lap on the Blyton Park circuit.

A purpose-built 6.0-liter, eight-cylinder, naturally-aspirated engine rated at 600 hp (447 kW) sits under the hood of the new supercar, linked to a six-speed sequential transmission. Although, to be entirely specific, it is actually closer to the middle of the car rather than its front axle.

There is little known about the actual road performance of the car right now. Its top going speed reportedly amounts to 320 km/h (199 mph), and the 0-100 km/h sprint time is “mind-boggling”. The car exerts 376 kg (829 lb.) of downforce when going at 160 km/h (99 mph).

Standard features include roll stabilization, ABS, climate control, a back-up camera, heated windows, back-up assist, a light sensor, an Internet hotspot, and a wireless gadget charger.

Ginetta does not reveal the price tag of its first road-going supercar, but it has been made official that it does not exceed £400,000. Production will begin in late 2019, and the company only plans to release 20 vehicles within the first 12 months of production. Fourteen of these have already been sold in pre-orders.

Ginetta had previously been known exclusively as a manufacturer of dedicated racecars and builder of sports car prototypes. Every year, the company builds around 300 racecars. That said, company CEO Lawrence Tomlinson let it slip 10 years ago that he had been thinking about releasing a street-legal Ginetta model.
