Audi Sport stays committed to petrol engines in its RS lineup

Despite the trend for total electrification, Audi will continue making traditional ICE cars, some of them with the RS badge on, says the company’s Design Director Marc Lichte. A few performance versions will be revealed later this year to celebrate Audi Sport GmbH turning 40.

Specifically, the Ingolstadt company plans to use two platforms in its design and engineering processes: PPE for electric cars and PPC for gas-powered ones. Simple logic suggests that the latter category will primarily consist of larger and more upmarket models that are currently based on the MLB platform.

Earlier this year, Audi Sport boss Sebastian Grams ventured the opinion that the company’s five-cylinder engine may be used to great results in the next-gen RS 3. The 2.5-liter unit makes 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW) in its present form, but an update could squeeze more power out of it.
