BMW 3-Series celebrates turning half a century old

The BMW 3-Series 50 Jahre Edition boasts many styling cues of its older generations and is coming to the United States in a limited production run priced from $75,200.

The exact quantity is unknown, but buyers are encouraged to place their orders soon. Cars are available in five colors inspired by the five preceding generations of the 3-Series, from E21 to E90. Your options are red, green, blue, black, and graphite grey with either red or blue brake calipers.

In any given case, the interior trim scheme will be chosen based on the interior color, but carbon-fiber trims will be standard for all five options. As well, buyers will be selecting from multiple new wheel designs that BMW claims it had never offered for the 3-Series before.

Standard features will include an exterior blackout package, a performance exhaust system, Harman Kardon audio and other niceties either not traditionally offered with the 3-Series or listed under paid options. Assorted 50 Jahre badges and plaques won’t be missing, either.

On the technical side of things, the car corresponds to the BMW M340i factory spec for North America. This means it packs a 3.0-liter inline-six engine rated at 391 PS (386 hp / 286 kW) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque. Sprinting from zero to 96.6 km/h (60 mph) succeeds in 4.1 seconds.
