Bugatti-Rimac chief executive reveals long-term partnership with BMW

According to Mate Rimac, the CEO of Bugatti-Rimac, the upcoming BMW i7 will take advantage of the Croatian company’s innovative traction battery. It is slated to debut at the Auto Beijing expo on April 22, 2026.

Rimac claims that using sixth-generation cylindrical lithium-ion power cells in the battery has improved its storage density by a further 20%. Powered by this tech, the i7 should travel farther on a charge and also top up faster than its predecessor did, but all numbers will have to wait until the Beijing show.

In turn, the Bavarian automaker has confirmed the deal with Rimac and went on to call it a “long-term cooperation.” As such, we should be looking forward to other BMW vehicles rocking with these batteries – especially the Neue Klasse ones.

As for the i7, it has only been previewed on a single darkened teaser pic so far. You’ll find it at the end of the gallery above. Judging by the body outlines and the backlit grille, the overall design direction stays the same.
