BMW iX1 spied testing

BMW has yet to announce it, but based on these spy shots provided by Carscoops, the company’s compact-sized electric crossover known as the iX1 is underway to a major facelift.

Based on the thickness of the wrap, we assume that the car is being completely redesigned with a Neue Klasse look in mind. In particular, it should no longer have oversized grille “nostrils” at the front, while its bumper and headlights should look similar to those of the current iX3 model (see video). Same changes are due at the sides and the rear end – the taillights look like have already been redesigned.

Carscoops believes that the new iX1 will borrow most of its interior and tech straight from the latest iX3. In order to keep the two models from cannibalizing each other’s sales, BMW may dial down the e-motor output and downsize the battery pack in the iX1, making it a more affordable alternative to the iX3. At the same time, the iX1 may end up with all the ADAS features and other tech gimmicks of the senior model.

For reference, the iX3 produces up to 469 PS (463 hp / 345 kW) and 645 Nm (476 lb-ft) of torque.

We expect the facelifted iX1 to debut in the coming several months.
