The BMW M3 Touring is now officially recognized as the fastest production wagon on the North Loop with a best lap time of 7 minutes 35.06 seconds. The previous champion – the Mercedes-AMG E63 S – was ten seconds slower than that.
The Bavarian estate car will first appear in public at the Goodwood festival of Speed on June 23, where it will also participate in the annual hill climb race. Rumors indicate that it might come equipped with the same 3.0-liter turbo-six engine as its sedan counterpart, which means 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW) and 650 Nm (480 lb-ft) of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission drives all four wheels.
The video shows a disguised car, but it looks that the new M3 Touring is largely identical to the saloon both outside and inside except for the longer roof.
It is also official that expensive body type homologation in the United States precludes BMW from offering the model on that market.
