BMW M3 facelift arrives in Europe

The BMW M3 sedan and wagon have received their mid-generational refresh along with the main lineup. The changes are minimal and mostly concern the Competition spec.

The most powerful 3.0-liter I6 engine available now outputs 20 horsepower (15 kilowatts) more than before the update. In absolute terms, this means 530 PS (523 hp / 390 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. As a result, the new M3 sedan sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.5 seconds. It reaches 200 km/h (124 mph) in 11.8 seconds.

The wagon doesn’t lag too far behind with 3.6 and 12.4 seconds, respectively. The top speed stays capped at 250 km/h (155 mph), but can be raised to 290 km/h (180 mph) for the sedan and to 280 km/h (174 mph) for the Touring version.

Design-wise, new headlights with arrow-shaped sections are arguably the biggest update. There is a new steering wheel in the cabin, an upgraded infotainment unit running on a new operating system, and some extra trim options. For the most part, these are identical between the new M3 and the normal 3-Series.
