3rd-gen BMW X1 allows a sneak peek at its digital cockpit

Judging by the freshly taken spy photos, the next-gen X1 will be getting an interior similar to that of the flagship electric SUV, the iX. Note the dual displays and the unusual steering wheel.

It seems that the new BMW X1 features two touch-enabled displays mounted adjacent to each other at an angle, just like in the Digital Cockpit of the iX. However, while the luxury flagship comes with screens sized 12.3 and 14.9 inches across, the X1 seems to make do with smaller ones.

Also seen on the photos is a modest-sized three-spoke steering wheel and a very tall center tunnel. The rest of the cabin is disguised.

The current-gen X1 has been around for six years now, and may retire with the coming of its successor next year. The SUV will move to a different technological platform, ship in AWD and FWD versions, and benefit from a wider range of powertrains, including part- and all-electric.
